No. 3 NU wins with ease again
SWEA CITY - Class 2A No. 3 continued it string of wins by double digits with a 14-2, five-inning victory over Spirit Lake on Thursday.
Allie Ingalls improved to 4-0 on the season as struck out five and walked one. Both Spirit Lake runs were earned and the Tigers had just three hits.
North Union pounded out 15 hits including four home runs, one each by Ingalls, Collete Haag, Dena Looft and Jasmine Clausen.
Haag was 4-4 with five RBIs and also had a double. Clausen was 1-1 with three RBIs and also drew two walks. Looft was 1-2 with two RBIs and Ingalls was 2-3 with two RBIs.
Also Cheyanne Boland was 2-4, Sara Johnson was 2-3, Taylor Mathine was 1-2 and Sarah Rolling was 1-3.
Warriors win pitchers' duel
BANCROFT - North Union's Sawyer Doocy and Spencer's Brady Illg put on a classic pitcher's duel Thursday in Bancroft.
When the dust settled, the Warriors had the 1-0 victory, scoring that valued run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Doocy pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out 14 Tigers while giving up two hits and three walks along with four hit batters. After Doocy gave up a walk and hit a batter with one out in the seventh, Corey Vaskey got Spencer's Blake Rosendahl to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
Illg took the loss despite striking out six batters, walking none and giving up five hits.
North Union scored when Colin Runksmeier led off with a single and stole second base. He scored when Spencer Ricke singled to left-center field.
Runksmeier, Doocy, Ricke and Alex Deitering all were 1-3 while Garrett Johnson was 1-2.
North Union (6-4 overall) will host Spalding Catholic next Tuesday in Bancroft.
