Scheduled to open on Monday, patrons of the Estherville municipal swimming pool will need to wait for a couple of warm days before enjoying the facility.
Estherville administrator Penny Clayton reported to the Parks and Recreation Board that temperatures have been too cool recently and the water was only 60 degrees on Monday.
However a few days like Tuesday, with the temperature reaching 84 degrees, the pool could open any day.
In other business, Clayton updated the board on the installation of new park signs. The column for a new sign has been installed at Thoreson Park. Installation of those columns at Riverside and Michelson parks hit a snag when it was discovered the location is where fiber optic cable runs. A locate will be done before they are installed.
The Parks and Recreation Board gave its approval for the Estherville Noon Kiwanis to adopt Lincoln Park for the 2013 season through the city's Adopt-A-Park program. The Kiwanis Club previously donated $5,000 towards the playground equipment. Under the Adopt-A-Park program, Kiwanis members will help with any planting and park cleanup as needed under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Board.
In other business, the board approved a request from the Estherville Chamber of Commerce for use of any extra picnic tables for The Rumbles free concert on June 29, 2013 at Iowa Lakes Community College.
The board also approved a request from the Emmet County Fair Board for the use of four bleachers and 15 picnic tables for the 2013 fair.
