LEMARS - Estherville Lincoln Central put up a good fight against Class 3A No. 7 LeMars, but came up short in the 5-2 loss on Wednesday.
"It was a fairly clean game, but they just out-played us," said ELC coach Lee Evans. "But we did a better job of competing tonight and did some good things to build on."
ELC trailed 4-0 heading into the sixth inning. Derek Nieland and Adam Reiter led off with a pair of singles-ELC's only two hits of the game. Tyler Swanson helped advance the runners with Nieland score on a fielder's choice RBI by Billy Snyder. Tucker Milburn reached on an error as the second run scored.
But that was all ELC could muster as LeMars added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
Snyder took the loss. He pitched six innings and gave up five runs (two earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.
"Billy threw a good game against a good hitting club," said Evans.
The coach also commended the play of catcher Corey Reeves who threw out two of three Bulldog players who attempted to steal second.
Parker Rolfes earned the win for the Bulldogs as he struck out 11 ELC players and walked just one.
ELC is home against Sheldon on Friday.
