Estherville Lincoln Central had its chances to avenge an earlier season loss to Western Christian, but the Midgets came up a key hit shy in a 5-4 loss to the Wolfpack on Wednesday.
ELC took a 2-1 lead after the second inning and held on to it until the sixth when Western Christian came up with a couple hits and starter Matt Burrell gave up three walks to take a 4-2 lead.
The Midgets got those runs back in the bottom of the inning.

Burrell hit a leadoff double into left field and scored when Tucker Milburn singled to the right-center field gap. Dan Christensen came in to run for Milburn and Tyler Swanson singled over the Wolfpack first baseman's head as Christensen went to third. Alec Wycoff came in to run for Swanson and then stole second base.
Western Christian got the first out when Justin Frederick hit a line drive snagged by the Wolfpack first baseman.
Bryce Hansen then had a hit that dribbled down the first base line and Christensen was tagged at the plate. Hansen then stole second base and Wycoff scored to tie the game on the error as no one was covering the bag at second.
Western Christian had a chance at taking the lead in the top of the seventh inning with runner at second and third with two outs. But Swanson, pitching in relief of Burrell, struck out Brady Van't Hul.
ELC went to work in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. Derek Nieland singled down the third-base line and went all the way to third on a wild pitch as he was already stealing second. Western Christian elected to walk both Burrell and Milburn to load the bases. Swanson worked the count, but went down swinging to end the threat.
In the top of the eighth inning, Ryan Le Loux reached on an error, stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch and scored the go-ahead run on an infield single.
ELC went down in order in the bottom of the eighth.
ELC (6-10 overall, 3-5 Lakes) host Harris-Lake Park this evening. The varsity-only contest starts at 5:30 p.m.
The ELC Junior Varsity lost 3-1 to Western Christian.
Dan Christensen took the loss as he pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter. Tim Greving pitched two innings and struck out two batters.
ELC had just one hit in the game. Chase Bonner was 1-3.
