IPTV’s Wardell to kids: Turn off your TV

Kids Clubhouse host visits library

How often do you hear the host of a kids' television show tell them to go home and turn their TV off?

Well, that's exactly what Dan Wardell, host of Iowa Public Television's Kids Clubhouse, did Thursday. Wardell was in town as part of Dan's Reading Road Trip. He was last at the library in 2008.

Appearing before two groups of kids and parents at the Estherville Public Library Thursday afternoon, Wardell urged kids in his inimitable "Dantastic" voice to follow a few simple directions.

"I want you to turn your TVs off and I want you to use your imagination. Go outside and play. Read a good book."

Wardell then told kids the tale of Mole Island where a boat filled with junk food crashed. With the kids' help, he eliminated the junk food and replaced it with healthy food. By the time they were done, the moles had gone away and the mountain on the island was filled with good, healthy food.
