Son of Elmer and Loretta Spoo, Ron was born in Estherville. He began his working life as a farmer in Emmet County prior to enlisting in the US Air Force in 1960. He served in a variety of locations during the Cold War including Taiwan, Texas, Turkey, Japan, and Colorado. He also served a year in Thailand in support of air combat operations during the Vietnam War. After he retired with 24 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant, Ron worked a further 13 years as a systems engineer for Ford Aerospace and later Lockheed Martin in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A good man, characterized by love of family and service to country, Ron is survived by his wife, Esther; son, Mark; daughter, Margie Collins; son-in-law, Brian Collins; grandchildren, Erin and Sean Collins; sisters, Mary Ann Hoffmeyer and Joan Koosman; brother, Jerome, and many nieces and nephews.
