With the fall sports season now underway, this is a great time to get out and support our local athletic teams.
And here are a few good reasons why we should.
It will bolster team spirit. What do you think will inspire a team more - a handful of spectators in a stand or the stands filled with cheering fans, dressed in school colors. Definitely, it's the latter.
It will help community pride. Whenever a team goes to the state tournament, the hopes of the entire community go with it - whether everyone in the community is a fan or not. Once the team leaves for Cedar Falls, Des Moines or Fort Dodge, community pride rides along - every single time.
The lessons learned in athletic competition go far beyond the field. Concepts like teamwork, camaraderie, pride in your group and reaching for our personal best apply in every walk of life. Great athletes make great leaders - and that's a proven fact.
So when game night comes, think about taking one in. Do yourself the favor of watching some local, hometown athletes give their best.
One more Downtown Market
Downtown Market visitors saw a great salsa demonstration Thursday night by Katie Knobbe and Britney Rosburg of ISU Extension.
If you haven't had the chance to make it yet, there's one more downtown market for the season, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 in Library Square.
So come on down and see some of the great home-baked goodies, crafts and other great items.
