RUTHVEN - Someone has to play the defending state champions in the first game of the 2013 season.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire took on that task Friday and didn't have much success against last year's 8-Man champion Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn as the Eagles built a 26-0 halftime lead and won 32-0.

MMC sophomore quarterback Jacob Spieler passed for 155 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Meanwhile junior Connor Holmes ran for 100 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles finished with 168 yards on the ground.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire finished with 134 yards on 55 attempts on the ground. The Titans had just 13 yards through the air, as Marcus Girres was 3-for-7 passing.

Individually Mason McGrauth rushed for 70 yards on 23 attempts; Kyle Dalen had 144 yards on 16 attempts, Lane Reiman had 24 yards on four carries and Tyler Hoffman had 21 yards on three carries.

Defensively McGrauth led the team with nine tackles while Dalen had seven. Girres, Alex Hoffman and Danial Moyer each had five tackles. Girres also intercepted two passes while Cody Thompson recovered a fumble.
