RUTHVEN - With Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire leading by just a two-point conversion after one quarter of play, 14-12, it appeared the Titans might be in a fight for a homecoming victory.
GTRA was able to stop the Chargers from running the ball in that first period, but the visitors were able to get behind the defense on a couple pass plays.
However, the final three quarters was nearly all Titans as the hosts held the visitors to just one more touchdown while erupting for 40 points in the 54-18 victory.
GTRA struck on their opening drive. After starting at the visitor's 37-yard line, the Titans found themselves facing a fourth-and-3. But Kyle Dalen broke free on a 30-yard run to score at the 10:26 mark.
Laurens-Marathon answered with a drive of its own. The Chargers used a lateral pass to the left side of the field and the back hit a wide-open receiver down the field with Marcus Girres making a touchdown-saving tackle at the 1-yard line.
The Titans nearly pulled off the goal line stand, but visitors scored on the quarterback keeper.
GTRA needed just two plays from scrimmage, both runs by Dalen, to score again. This time Dalen broke free on a 60-yard run. Girres added the 2-point conversion as the Titans led 14-6 with 5:38 remaining.
GTRA forced the visitors to punt for the first time, but then fumbled it back on the next play at their own 14.
Three plays later, the visitors scored on an 11-yard pass.
The scoring slowed a bit until midway through the second quarter.
Damian Suwalski forced a Charger safety. On the ensuing kick, Michael Girres returned the ball 62 yards for another score.
Before half, Marcus Girres connected with Jake Wegener on a 45-yard strike as the Titans led 28-12 at the break.
GTRA kept up the pressure with the first three scores of the third quarter. Dalen scored on an 11-yard run with Marcus Girres adding the two-point conversion at the 8:51 mark, The GTRA quarterback then scored on a 21-yard run at the 7:05 mark and then again on defense when he picked off a pass and returned in 24 yards at the 5:20 mark.
Laurens-Marathon scored its final points with 14 seconds left in the third on a 1-yard run.
Dalen wrapped up the night with a 9-yard touchdown run with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter.
GTRA finished with 333 yards on 37 carries. Dalen had 198 yards on 15 carries, Mason McGrauth had 46 yards on eight carries and Marcus Girres had 15 yards on seven carries.
Marcus Girres was 3-of-5 passing for 76 yards. Wegener had the one catch for 45 yards, Garrett Parker had one catch for 23 yards and Dalen had one catch for 8 yards.
Defensively, Alex Hoffman recovered a fumble. McGrauth had 13 tackles, Dalen had 11 tackles, Suwalski had eight tackles and a sack and Cody Thompson had six tackles.
GTRA (2-1 overall) is at West Bend-Mallard on Friday.
