STORM LAKE - The Estherville Lincoln Central girls' cross country team is running in a tight pack-that pack just needs to get closer to the front for the Midgets to have success.
ELC ran its second big race in four days and finished eighth out of 16 teams with 229 points at Storm Lake on Tuesday.
ELC coach Tina Burton said all seven girls on the team finished within 1 minute, 3 seconds of each other.
"As coaches, we feel like we have to start better," said Burton. "Where we were in the first 200 yards is where we finish."
Three seniors led ELC Tuesday.
Rachel Bates finished 31st in 17:03; Heather Natterstad placed 43rd in 17:22 and Brianna Enerson placed 47th in 17:34.
Coach Burton is pleased with Enerson's progress.
"She had some health issues in May that kept her from staying strong," Burton said. "As coaches, it's good to know she healthy and we can expect a little more from her."
Completing the scoring were Vanessa Blanco, who finished 53rd in 17:48 and Hallie Jensen placed 55th in 17:49. Also Taylor Karels placed 56th in 17:56 and Colleen Humble placed 63rd in 18:05.
In the junior varsity race, ELC finished seventh out of 10 complete teams with 223 points.
