Four former Estherville Lincoln Central girls' basketball standouts are competing at the next level for the 2013-14 college season.
Alyssa Johnson, a 2012 graduate who helped ELC to two state tournament appearances, is seeing court time at the University of Northern Iowa. The 6-3 post player redshirted last season. She scored her first four points for the Panthers in a win against North Dakota on Nov. 12. Johnson has played in all four games and the Panthers are off to a 2-2 start after picking up an 86-82 win over North Dakota State on Wednesday.
Allie Sievert, a 2013 ELC alum and the Midgets' career leading scorer, scored her first collegiate points in Augustana's opener on Nov. 16. The 6-0 forward scored four points in 13 minutes in a 95-79 win over Jamestown. She played four minutes in a 75-65 win over William Penn on Tuesday. Augustana rolled past Presentation 108-46 on Thursday. Sievert struggled from the field, going 0-of-6, but was 6-of-6 from the free throw line. She also had 11 rebounds and two blocked shots in 13 minutes of play. Augustana is ranked 11th in the USA Toda Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll this week.
Sara Heywood, another 2013 alum, is playing for Morningside College in Sioux City. The Mustangs are ranked third in the NAIA Division II. Heywood, a 5-7 guard, has played in all six games, averaging 3.3 points in 12.6 minutes per game. The Mustangs are 5-2 after suffering an overtime to fifth-ranked Concordia and a 68-64 loss to Midland University this past week.
Macy Dahl, also a 2013 alum, is playing in Estherville for Iowa Lakes Community College. The Lakers are off to a 3-4 start.
Seth Shatto, a 2011 graduate of Estherville Lincoln Central, is in his junior season at Buena Vista University. Shatto, wrestling at 165 pounds, posted a 5-2 record at the Knox College Invitational in Galesburg, Ill. He had three pins in the tournament.
Teammate and 2012 ELC alum Gable Bonner is wrestling at heavyweight for the Beavers this season. The sophomore posted a 3-2 record at the tournament and finished fourth.
