TERRIL - After watching a 12-point halftime lead evaporate to three in the third quarter, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth and then held on for a 39-30 victory against Clay Central-Everly on Friday.
"Defensively we played pretty well again," said GTRA coach Todd Hough. "Offensively, we struggled in the third quarter only scoring four points. We did a good job of toughing it out and hanging on in the end to get a win."
After the Mavericks scored the first four points to start the third quarter, Lauren Flaharty came up with a steal and layup to push the lead back to 10. But the visitors went on a 7-0 run with the Titans just getting a couple free throws the rest of the period as they led 31-26 to start the fourth.
But GTRA went to work right away with Grace Skattebo getting inside for a layup and Brooke Hoffman hitting a long two-pointer. After a free throw by Emily Moran, Hoffman came up with a 3-pointer that put GTRA up 39-26 with 4:40 left in the game.
GTRA pulled back its offense for the most part the rest of the way with the Mavericks hitting a couple late baskets.
Flaharty led the Titans with eight points, nine rebounds and six steals. Hoffman added eight points while Skattebo finished with seven. Bakken had six points and seven rebounds while Moran had three, Katie Olesen had two and Alex Oleson and Morgan McGrauth each had one point. McGrauth also had four steals.
GTRA (5-4 overall, 2-2 in the Cornbelt) hosts West Bend-Mallard in Ruthven on Tuesday and is at Pocahontas Area on Thursday
