House catches fire

Smoke and flames erupt from this house at 703 Second Avenue South just after 3 p.m., Friday. According to fire chief Dick Beaver, the three-apartment complex is owned by Jeff Juergens and was occupied by Gordon Lucas, Nelda Macias, and Tomas Garcia. All got out safely. Firefighters were on scene about 2 1/2 hours and were assisted by Estherville police, Estherville Ambulance, Emmet County Emergency Management director and the Wallingford Fire Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
