The North Union Board of Education Monday night approved hiring Matt Berninghaus as superintendent, with a formal contract offer to come on or after March 15.
Berninghaus, Armstrong-Ringsted and current interim North Union superintendent, had applied for the position as did Sentral superintendent Art Pixler.
Pixler then Berninghaus made their cases for the job, each in an hour-long presentation, starting at 7:30 p.m. then concluding at 9:30 when the board made the offer to Berninghaus. North Union board president Jim Boyer made the motion, and Boyer and the other two Armstrong-Ringsted district members on the North Union Board - Jen Von Bank and George Walker - approved Berninghaus as superintendent while the representatives from the Sentral Board - Ron Dacken and Cory Culbertson - voted against.
The permanent contract for the position would start July 1.
Berninghaus noted that administrative restructuring and negotiations would be on the agenda for the next meeting of the Armstrong-
Ringsted and North Union boards which will be at 5:30 p.m. for Armstrong-Ringsted and 6:30 for North Union on Feb. 24.
