GRAETTINGER - Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald S. Weber, 82, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with Monsignor Michael Sernett, celebrant. Military graveside rites by Nelson-Christensen Post 162 American Legion of Graettinger will be held at St. Jacob's Catholic Cemetery, Graettinger. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Gerald Simon Weber, the son of George (Oscar) and Margaret (Loring) Weber, was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Whittemore, Iowa.

He received his education in the Ayrshire, Iowa, schools. After completing his education Gerald served in the United States Air Force during the Korean era and was stationed in California, Korea and Japan. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the Graettinger area.

On March 1, 1954, Gerald was united in marriage to Bernice Mahan in Graettinger. The couple made their home in Graettinger where they began raising their family and Gerald was employed as a Graettinger Police Officer. Later he went to work for John Morrell and Company in Estherville where he was employed until the time of his retirement after 28 years of service.

Gerald and Bernice enjoyed years of traveling to almost every state in the union including Alaska. They also traveled to Canada, Mexico and Europe. While in Europe, they visited Germany and connected with both sides of their family. They especially enjoyed spending the cold winter months in warm, sunny Texas and eventually purchased a winter home in Raymondville, Texas.

Gerald was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger.

Left to cherish Gerald's memory are his wife, Bernice of Graettinger; his children, Michele Erickson, husband, Steve of Estherville and their children, Katie, Jim, Craig, Betsy and Nick; Coleen Duhn, husband, Randy of Graettinger and their children, Jared and Jessica; Diana Mortimore, husband, Jeff of Estherville and their children, Tessa and Megan; Becky Borneke, husband, Pat of Janesville, Minnesota and their children, Chance and Mac; Suzie Weber and special friend, Vincent Spallo of Kansas City, Mo., and her children, Sarah and Nicole; his siblings, Jeanette Hanson and her husband, John; Richard Weber and his wife, Lois, Robert Weber and his wife, Sheryl and Wilmer Weber and his wife, Linda, and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding Gerald in death were an infant daughter, Katherine; parents and brother, Cletus Weber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Memory Unit.
