ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Martha Von Hagen, 96, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at her daughter's home in Graettinger.
Martha (Nelsen) Von Hagen, the daughter of John Peter and Inger (Rassmussen) Nelson, was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Kensett.
She graduated from Northwood Independent High School in 1936.
On March 31, 1940, Martha was united in marriage to Vern "Bud" Von Hagen in Northwood. After their marriage the couple made their home in Northwood for a time and then moved to rural Jackson, Minn. The couple then farmed in the rural Estherville area before moving into Estherville. Martha was a busy mother and farm wife. Bud passed away July 1, 1985. Martha was very active in volunteering her time at the Emmet County Historical Museum, Holy Family Auxiliary Gift Shop, the Senior Citizens Center and Meals On Wheels.
Martha was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.
Left to cherish Martha's memory are her children, Sharon (Jim) Clark of Graettinger; David (Diana) Von Hagen of Estherville; Alan (Elaine) Von Hagen of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Michael (Sharon) Von Hagen of Ankeny; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
