WALLINGFORD - Funeral services for Orva Clark-Kaltved, 95, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor Chris Lang officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Orva Geverna Clark-Kaltved was born Dec. 29, 1918, near Kelley. Her parents were Ole and Alma (Froland) Lee.
On April 2, 1939 she was married to Merlyn Clark at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple farmed in Minnesota and Iowa for seven years before moving into Wallingford after buying the blacksmith shop from T. A. Hersleff. Seven years later they purchased the hardware store from Ole Anderson and for twenty-eight and one-half years, it was known as Clark's Hardware and Gas.
She was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church, the Wallingford American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in Estherville. She served in many offices and committees in both church and auxiliary where she had served as County President. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Merlyn died in a car accident in October 1984. On July 31, 1993, she married Orvis Kaltved. He died in 2004.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce Hanson and her husband, Larry, of Des Moines, Maureen Clark of Wallingford and Sheri Behrends and her husband, Gerry, of Wallingford; son-in-law, Bill Mammen, of Estherville; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; grand-dog, Taffy; two sisters, Arlene Voigt of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Bonnie (Whitehouse) Nelson and her husband, Norman of Estherville; brother-in-law, Jerald Heifner and his wife Myrtle of Fairmont, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; five step-daughters, two step-sons and their families.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her two husbands; two daughters, Joanne Clark and Karen Mammen; great-granddaughter, Andrea Behrends; brother Norris Lee and his wife Dorothy; sister Ardis Heifner and brothers-in-law, Robert Whitehouse and Ralph Voigt and two nephews.
