Thanks to the Excel Estherville Arts & Culture Committee and Estherville Lincoln Central, folks had a great exposure to opera Friday.
For starters, Opera Iowa performed The Three Little Pigs for elementary students at Roosevelt Auditorium. It was an incredible opportunity for kids to see a real opera - a rare opportunity for anyone in our area.
Something has to be said too for how well-behaved the kids were. They were engaged and paid attention and were polite through the entire performance. And they laughed at all the right places.
Opera Iowa later performed Elixer of Love 7 p.m. Friday night. Again, it was a wonderful opportunity for people to see opera.
We owe a lot to ELC which sponsored the afternoon matinee for the kids and to Excel for The Elixer of Love performed Friday night. These were great events that help set a high bar for entertainment in Estherville.
Ready to rock ' roll?
If rock 'n roll is more your style, you can check out The Senders dance at the Elks Lodge from 8 p.m. to midnight tonight. Sponsored by the Black Knights Car Club, proceeds go toward worthy causes that the Black Knights regularly funds.
Or maybe pancakes are your style
If you don't feel like making breakfast Sunday morning and want to support a good cause, why not come to the benefit pancake breakfast at the Estherville fire hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage is available for a freewill donation.
Proceeds are going toward a rescue truck for the department - a worthy cause if there ever was one.
