Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to Estherville City Council members Gene Haukoos and Julie Clark for attending the legislative Town Hall meeting last Saturday morning at the Sleep Inn & Suites board room in Estherville. It's good to see some of our local government representatives showing an interest in what's happening at the state level.

Thumbs up to Karen Butler, Estherville Good Samaritan Society Volunteer of the Year, who was feted at the annual volunteer recognition brunch Monday. A big thumbs up also has to go to the many volunteers present for the brunch. And while we're at it, let's give a tremendous thumbs up to Good Sam administrator Isaac Gerdes who treats residents like his own family and who in a very short time has made himself a vital member of the Estherville community.

Thumbs up to Armstrong City Council members for hearing three proposals for a water system and tower study at Monday's council meeting, then giving it a week to make a decision this coming Monday. That shows a lot of deliberation and forethought.

A rousing thumbs up to Estherville Lincoln Central fifth-graders for taking the DARE pledge to resist peer pressure to experiment with drugs and alcohol. You have made the right decision and you are taking a great step forward toward the rest of your life.

Thumbs up to Northwest Bank and Don Jose for a fantastic Business After Five Wednesday night. The bank was absolutely packed, and for good reason.

Thumbs up to the United Methodist Men for another great pancake supper Wednesday night. We should also give a thumbs up for the wonderful causes you support with the funds raised from the supper.

Thumbs up to North Union students, staff and all the volunteers and county agencies who took part in the Every 15 Minutes exercise Thursday and Friday. If one person's life is saved (and one will be), it will all be worth it.

Thumbs up to everyone who attended the Wholly Grape & Ale event Friday night at Estherville Golf Course. You are helping support a great cause right here in our community.

Thumbs up to the Many Voices Choir for a wonderful performance at Immanuel Lutheran Church Friday night as well as to those who attended.
