Volunteer Network launches website

April 18, 2014
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville News

The Emmet County Volunteer Network viewed the group's Website and learned about volunteer opportunities at its quarterly meeting Monday at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Linda Anderson, Emmet County RSVP coordinator, said the free clinic at the Christian Church needs RNs and LPNs to volunteer once a month. She is awaiting details of what the clinic's needs are.

Emmet County Extension Program Educator Britney Rosburg found volunteers for the Strengthening Families program through the network, said Anderson. And Anderson also said Purple Cord volunteers from Estherville Lincoln Central helped pack up after the Opera Iowa concert March 14.

There was also help for the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Farm and Home Show, plus two babysitters were found for children during the recent Iowa Lakes Community College musical Les Miserables. Ushers were also provided for the musical.

"I feel like we're finally there," said Mary Steele, RSVP director, adding that 10 partners - or those needing volunteers - are onboard.

Steele suggested the network might consider having a drawing each quarter to award gift cards for each group that volunteers. She said there might also be a separate drawing for individual volunteers - something she said will hopefully encourage partners.

Steele said anyone who wants to donate monetarily to the network could send donations to the Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation, with the donation earmarked to the Emmet County Volunteer Network.

The network Website is Volunteers or those needing volunteers may also call (712) 362-7929.
