CHEROKEE - Estherville Lincoln Central played toe-to-toe with Cherokee, but didn't quite have enough as the Braves held out for a 7-2 win.
The Midgets were hindered with the absence of a couple players who were taking part in the high school play, but still had the top four regulars.
ELC's wins on the night came at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles as John Reisner won 6-3, 6-3 over Alex Mauer while Tim Soper won 4-6, 6-4, 1-0, winning the super tiebreaker 10-5.
"I thought we played well and we were in a lot of matches," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "Tim and John played well. They've had some adversity this year. This time, they were down and came back which was good to see."
In other singles play, Levi Jensen lost 6-1, 6-1 to Brett Walker, Thomas Bortvit lost 6-0, 6-0 to Alex Schultz, Jace Hobmeier lost 6-2, 6-1 to Nate Dodd and Jose Rodriguez lost 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8) to Miguel Salazar.
In doubles, Jensen and Bortvit lost 6-4, 6-0 to Walker and Schultz. Reisner and Soper lost their first set 7-6 (7-2). Reisner was injured during the match and the pair elected to injury default the match against Mauer and Fowler.
In the third doubles, Hobmeier and Rodriguez lost 6-1, 6-3 to Dodd and Salazar.
ELC travels to the Lakes Conference Tournament at Spirit Lake today.
The Midgets are at Spirit Lake on Monday for a dual meet and then travel to LeMars on Tuesday for two meets against the Bulldogs as the teams' make up one of their meets postponed postponed by weather. ELC will then host Spencer on Thursday.
