SPIRIT LAKE - Megan Jensen and Caitlyn Clayton both earned Lakes Conference championships at Thursday's meet in Spirit Lake.
Jensen won the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 10.29 seconds to edge past Spirit Lake Park's Miranda Brueggeman.
"Megan is still trying to figure out how to run the 400 meter hurdles," said ELC coach Tina Burton. "She was a little worried before the race. She wanted first place. I had to tell her to just run her race and to not over think it. She's done a wonderful job all year doing what she's done and I encouraged her to just continue what she's been doing."
Running the lead leg in the shuttle hurdle relay, Megan Jensen fared better in the 400-meter hurdles as she won a Lakes title in the event on Thursday in Spirit Lake. Find more photos at cu.esthervillenews.net.

Clayton won the shot put with relative ease with a throw of 40 feet, 11 inches. No other thrower topped the 40-foot mark.
Clayton added an all-conference performance in the discus as she placed second with a throw of 110 feet, 11 inches.
"It's nice to see Caitlyn throwing the discus as well as she has this season to pair with her shot put throwing success," said Burton. "Having her excel in two events is great."
Jorgenson also earned all-conference honors with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.34. Jorgenson just missed all-conference in the 200-meter dash where she finished third.
"We always know going into the Lakes Conference that we will be running against some of the best girls in the area," said ELC coach Tina Burton. "Alicia, who has seen a lot of success in the 400 and 200 meter dashes, met some competition that she hasn't had all season. She set a new PR (personal record) in the 400-meter dash but had to chase a girl for a second place finish. It was an outstanding race."
One other race of note was the sprint medley. After LeMars winning time under 2 minutes, the next four teams-Western Christian, Emmetsburg, Spirit Lake Park and ELC-finished within 73 hundredths of each other. The ELC team of Jensen, Coral Franklin, Brianna Enerson and Jorgenson placed fifth in 2:02.77.
"The sprint medley race was a photo finish second through fifth place," said Burton. "We landed with 5th. Alicia battled the finish very well to put us in the position to fight for a spot. I know the girls were hoping for a higher place, but the finish of that race just goes to show you what kind of competitor Alicia is."
As a team, ELC finished fifth overall with 51 points.
