Lakers end regular season on four-game skid

The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team dropped its final four games of the season to Iowa Central in doubleheaders on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3.

On Friday, the visiting Tritons pounded out 11 hits in a 14-2 victory in game one. The Lakers also committed four errors while having just four hits. Luis Sterling was 1-2 with two RBIs.

Kyle Thomas took the loss as he pitched three innings and gave up nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Lakers played better in the second game, but still lost 10-3 as Iowa Central broke a 2-2 tie with six runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Ryan Mose pitched three innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Matthew Vazquez pitched an inning and a third as he took the loss. He gave up six runs (five earned) on two hits with four walks and one strikeout.

The Lakers managed seven hits with Pat Gough going 2-3 while Sterling again was 1-2 with an RBI.

On Saturday, the Lakers fell in a 4-0 hole after the first two innings. While the defense held after that, the hosts managed just one run in the 4-1, nine-inning loss. The Lakers scattered seven hits with Tanner Johnson, Juan Perez and Sterling each going 2-4.

Jesus Brito took the loss as he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts and five walks in nine innings of work.

In the final game of the series, Iowa Central again pounded out 14 runs, this time breaking a 5-5 tie with five runs in the top of the fifth.

Michael DeLos Santos took the loss as he pitched an inning and a third, giving up three earned runs on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.

The Lakers finished with nine hits as Sterling went 3-4 with four RBIs, Blake Rogers went 3-3 with an RBI and Tanner Johnson went 2-4 with two RBIs.

Iowa Lakes finishes the regular season with a 19-21 overall record and 7-17 in the conference.

The Lakers are seeded seventh in the Region XI Tournament and will face Southeaster at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the double-elimination event.
