OKOBOJI - Spirit Lake-Okoboji fared very well at the Class1A District Tennis Meet on Thursday, qualifying a doubles team for state and advancing their team into substate duals with a third-place finish.
Michael O'Brien and Ryley Smith placed second in doubles to advance to state.
The duo started the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over LeMars' Chris Moir and Tuner Manley. They then defeated Spencer's Jack O'Hara and Joe Sherbon 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1. In the semifinals, they defeated Cherokee's Brett Walker and Alec Shultz 6-2, 6-3 before losing to the district champs-Josh Sluter and Matte Ellefson of LeMars-6-3, 6-2.
SL-O's other doubles team of Will Fuelberth and Jason Thorn won their first-round match 6-3, 6-2, but lost in the second round 6-1, 6-0.
In singles, Hunter Andreason lost to Joe Keane of Bishop Heelan 7-6, 6-2 and Tully Reed lost to Nate Fowler of Cherokee, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
LeMars took first place with 18 points with Spencer second with 17 points and SL-O with 12 points. LeMars advances automatically to the substate finals.
Spencer will host SL-O in a dual meet today.
