NU still looking for first medal

DES MOINES - North Union still had a couple more chances for a medal at the 2014 State Track Meet.

Today, MaKayla Hardman runs in the 100-meter dash finals and the Warriors' sprint medley team goes to work right away at 9 a.m.

Hardman qualified for the finals with her seventh-place finish in the prelims on Thursday in 13.20 seconds. The top three qualifiers finished under 13 seconds.

Hardman missed the finals in the 200-meter dash with a 12th-place finish in 27.18 seconds. The eight finalists all ran the event under 27 seconds.

The Warriors' other girls event was the shuttle hurdle relay. The quartet of Sarah Rolling, Ashley Olson, Emily Hagebock and Jordan Guerdet finished 21st in 1:13.24. The eight medalists finished the event at least 2 seconds faster.

All the North Union boys' state qualifiers competed on Friday.

Aric Runge finished 20th in the 400-meter low hurdles in 59.98 seconds and then placed 21st in the 110-meter high hurdles. In the high hurdles, the top eight finishers finished in 15.79 seconds or faster.

In the discus, Dyson Umscheid finished 23rd overall with a throw of 116 feet even.
