STORM LAKE - Estherville Lincoln Central gave coach Megan Anderson her 100th career victory as the Midgets shut out Storm Lake 9-0 on Friday.
ELC improves to 5-3 in this season and 2-1 in the Lakes Conference with the victory.
The Midgets got off to a slow start, scoring their first run when Megan Jensen was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored when the Storm Lake center fielder dropped a fly ball hit by Carson Gjerde.
The lead was still 1-0 when ELC went to work with one out in the first, taking advantage of some Storm Lake errors and mental mistakes.
This time, Jensen started with a single and went to second on a throwing error. After stealing third, she scored on a double by Gjerde. Gjerde scored on a single by Caitlyn Clayton with an error allowing Clayton to advance all the way to third. She scored on a single by Liz Brashear. Courtesy runner Gabby Heckard came in for Brashear and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Rachel Bates drew a walk and stole second. When another ball got past the Storm Lake catcher, Heckard scored. An alert Bates also saw her chance to score on the play as ELC led 6-0.
ELC scored run No. 7 in the sixth inning as Colleen Humble reached base on a dropped third strike. She eventually scored on a single by Gjerde.
In the seventh inning, Brashear led off with a single. Morgan White came in to run for Brashear and stole second. A one-out triple by Sarah Schacherer scored White. After Alyssa Friesner was hit by a pitch, Schacherer scored when Humble grounded out for the second out.
Defensively, ELC played errorless and Storm Lake had only one runner reach third base. Brashear struck out nine batters and walked one.
ELC hosts its tournament today with Spencer, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and North Union coming to town. Play begins at 9:30 a.m.
