Estherville Lincoln Central built an 8-0 lead against visiting Western Christian and then held on in the final two innings for the 8-3 victory to start Lakes Conference play on Wednesday.
The Midgets had four errors in the final three innings, but Western Christian couldn't string the hits together to make a rally.
"We can't sit on the lead and expect to get outs," said ELC coach Lee Evans.
In a race to first race, Western Christian’s Daniel Van Maanen beat ELC’s Austin Egeland to first, but the Midgets won the game on Wednesday in Estherville.

However, the coach was pleased with his team's offense.
"I thought we had a good approach at the plate and made them make plays," he said.
The Wolfpack had four errors of their own.
ELC went right to work with three runs in the first inning and then put up five more in the fourth.
Zach Humble led off the inning with a single and Dan Christensen was hit by a pitch. A groundout to short by Riley Strenge moved the runners to second and third.
Alec Wycoff then hit a grounder to the Western Christian third baseman. Humble was off base and headed for home. He reached safely as the throw hit him in the back. Meanwhile the other runners advanced and two runs scored on a single by Billy Snyder. Austin Egeland singled and then Carsten Bosch reached on an error as Snyder scored. A single by Tim Greving gave the Midgets the 8-0 lead.
The Wolfpack first threatened to score with loaded bases in the third inning, but a strikeout by Snyder ended the threat. Western Christian again loaded the bases in the fifth inning and one run scored due to an ELC error.
Two more Wolfpack runs scored in the sixth inning on an ELC error.
Snyder finished with the win as he gave up seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
The Estherville Lincoln Central Junior Varsity won 11-1 over Western Christian on Wednesday. Dalton Christoffer picked up the in, striking out nine while giving up four hits and one walk.
At the plate, Chase Bonner was 3-4 with an RBI, Evan Olesen was 2-3 with an RBI, Trey Jacobson was 2-3, Jacob Bosch was 2-4 with two RBIs, Dan Christensen was 2-4, Hunter King was 2-5 and Lucas Gardner was 1-2.
