Warriors, Titans split games on Monday

BANCROFT - North Union and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire split their Cornbelt Conference doubleheader on Monday with the Warriors taking the first game 10-4 and the Titans bouncing back with a 12-10 win in the nightcap.

Colin Runksmeier pitched the first game for North Union as he gave up four runs (one earned) on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

Andy Geelan pitched six innings in the loss. He gave up 10 runs (six earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Warriors had built an 8-0 lead through five innings. Logan Hellman had a two-run single in the second inning. In the third inning, Alex Krantz had an RBI double and Parker Oleson an RBI single. In the fifth inning, Vaske and Krantz each hit one-out singles with Vaske scoring on Krantz's hit. A double by Oleson brought another run home and an error allowed Oleson to score.

GT/RA cut the lead in half with four runs in the sixth inning as Michael Girres led off with a double followed by a Warrior error, which allowed Kyle Dalen reach base. After a single by Tyler Hauge, the Warriors finally came up with a pair of outs. But Kodi Ferguson, Andrew Aeilts and Alex Hoffman came up with consecutive RBI singles.

The Warriors came back with two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Titans finished with a pair of two-out singles before Runksmeier recorded his eighth strikeout to end the game.

Krantz led north Union at the plate as he went 3-4 with two RBIs. Oleson and Hellman each were 2-3 with two RBIs.

For the Titans, Girres, Dalen and Hauge each were 2-4 while Aeilts was 2-3 with an RBI.

The second game was a seesaw battle. GT/RA opened with three runs in the first inning with North Union tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second. The Titans scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth with North Union scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 7-6.. GT/RA won the final two innings-the sixth 2-1 and the seventh 4-2.

North Union threw three pitchers with Oleson lasting a third of an inning and giving up three earned runs on two hits with three walks. Vaske pitched five innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Cody Runksmeier took the loss as he pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits with no strikeouts and two walks.

Taylor Enderson pitched all seven innings for the Titans giving up 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate for the Titans, Aeilts finished 4-5 with four RBIs, Alex Hoffman was 3-5 and Marcus Girres was 2-3 with two RBIs.

For the Warriors, Vaske was 2-3 with two RBIs, Spencer Ricke and Braden Ortman each were 2-3 with an RBI and Cody Runksmeier was 2-4 with two RBIs.
