Rev. Ed Powers has answered a call to the United Methodist Church of Estherville as its new pastor.
A Walla Walla, Wash. native, Powers served four and a half years in the Army in the NATA Air Defense School for High Altitude Air Defense and later was a drill sergeant in the Army Reserves for seven years.
He attended the St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City and served parishes in Kahlotus, Wash.; Morley/Olin/Oxford Junction; Cedar Rapids Asbury and First United Methodist in Shenandoah.
He and his wife, Jacque, have two children - Leah in Albuquerque, N.M. and Neil in Maryland.
Powers is looking forward to getting to know the community and see where he can used his skills.
He said he hopes his gifts and graces can help build the church.
His hobbies include riding motorcycle, playing guitar and reading.
