Thumbs up to Ringsted as it plans on welcoming RAGBRAI July 22. The Danes are going all out with entertainment by Glenn Henriksen and Galaxy in the park, Heart Song at United Lutheran Church, Wheels of Progress tractor display at StateLine Coop, vocalists in the park and an art show by North Union students. Cyclists can look for some great food, of course, including Danish cuisine and cinnamon rolls at United Lutheran Church; fruit turnovers, bananas, Norwegian Kringla and Powerade at First Presbyterian Church; pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee served by the Ringsted Fire Department; pies at the Legion/Community Center; rib-eye sandwiches by the Emmet County Cattlemen and much more.
Thumbs up to Black Knights Car Club members who brought their classic machines to three events on the Fourth - the flight breakfast at Estherville Airport, the car show during the Armstrong Fourth of July celebration and their cruise-in last night on Library Square. Talk about covering the county! If for some reason you missed all that, look for their next cruise-in the night of Friday, Aug. 1 in Library Square and their Sweet Corn Days car show north of American Muscle along North Eighth Street and First Avenue North in Estherville.
Thumbs up to all the volunteer leaders who have been holding Summer Shape Up events for the Estherville Public Library. They're really making a difference in public awareness of fitness and the many options available.
Thumbs up to Tresa Knoff, new administrator at Rosewood Manor, and Ed Powers, new pastor at United Methodist Church, whom the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed to Estherville Wednesday. A huge thumbs up also has to go to the Ambassadors who do a lot to make people feel like they're a part of the community.
Thumbs up to Emmet County Conservation Board and Emmet County Nature Center Foundation members for donating a lot of time and effort to making outdoor recreation available to everyone in Emmet County. The Conservation Board has really taken the lead in creating some first-rate camping facilities.
Thumbs up to all the volunteers who helped make the 66th Annual Estherville Flight Breakfast a success.
