Thank you Emmet County Community Foundation

Estherville News

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Estherville Lincoln Central First Grade Team, I would like to thank the Community Foundation of Emmet County for the grant money we recently received. The $2,866.02 will be used to support our professional reading goal by allowing every First Grade student to take home five books at their current Guided Reading Level weekly. Students read, reread, are read to or partner read these books to build their comprehension, accuracy, fluency and extended vocabulary skills.

The books purchased will provide each of the six First Grade classrooms with an additional one hundred multi-level fiction and non-fiction books to their leveled libraries. After reading and rereading their five books for the week, students will return the books and choose five more for the next week. This continues the entire school year. It is our hope that by providing additional reading opportunities for our students outside the classroom, they will become strong independent readers at grade level or above. The Emmet County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. Thanks again for your support of our students Emmet County Community Foundation Board Members: Penny Clayton, Vickie Rooney, Barb Christensen, Jeanne Handeland, Colleen Enerson, David Grussing, Max Pelzer, James Fisher, Mike Karels, Cheryl Houseman and Cathy Beaver.

Sincerely,

Carol Solberg
