Newman, Roberts unanimous selections to Lakes’ first team

Lakes Conference champion Spirit Lake was well-represented on the all-conference list with five players on the first team and one on the second.

Earning a unanimous nod for the first team were sophomore pitcher Bailee Newman and sophomore outfielder Caitlyn Roberts.

Newman posted an 11-1 record in league play with one save. In 73 1/3 innings, she struck out 64 batters and walked 20. She gave up 24 earned runs for an earned run average of 2.29. She also led the team at the plate, batting .469 with 23 hits including six doubles, four home runs and 20 RBIs with eight stolen bases.

Roberts batted .500 in conference play with 22 hits including three doubles and 11 RBIs.

Also named to the first team were infielders Mackenzie Thate and Maddie Richter along with catcher Whitlee Reitz.

Thate batted .457 with 21 hits including five doubles, a home run and 15 RBIs. Richter batted .341 with 14 hits including two doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs. Reitz batted .326 with 15 hits including three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs.

Outfielder Kelsey Delperdang was named to the second team. She batted .333 with 11 hits including one home run and three RBIs.
