Chocolate Walk, Parade of Lights delight Estherville

Estherville News

A good portion of Estherville donned its winter apparel Thursday night to enjoy the Chocolate Walk and Parade of Lights.

Downtown merchants offered goodies galore for kids of all ages who enjoyed the treats.

And then everyone gathered downtown for the Parade of Lights. With the theme "Frozen", everyone enjoyed the floats with kids and lights and plenty of smiles.

Bringing up the rear of the parade was Santa in his cabin.

We are indeed lucky to live in a community that treasures the Christmas tradition. Christmas is a time for families, and especially, for kids.

Community Christmas project

As Christmas and the holidays approach, we should all remember those families who don't have what the rest of us do. And that's why the Estherville Ministerial Association created the Community Christmas Project.

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, families who would otherwise not enjoy Christmas will gather at Duhigg Center to receive the generosity of others. Thanks to people like you, they will enjoy warm blankets and coats and hats and mittens. And their children will take home a Christmas doll or toy or game.

If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, why not make a contribution to the Community Christmas Project. Contributions may be made through any Estherville clergy member or to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc., located in the Emmet County Annex just west of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative. Donations of blankets, coats, hats, mittens, and of course toys, are welcome. Cash donations are equally welcome as well.

Christmas is a time of giving. And the feeling we get by giving can be the best gift we can ever receive.
