Thumbs up to Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds who held a Women in Business forum last Saturday at the Regional Wellness Center. Reynolds showed genuine interest in helping women grow their communities and making Iowa a better place to live.

Thumbs up to Iowa Lakes Community College for hosting the SERTech event this week. The training session for wind energy industry professionals went far to put Iowa Lakes and Estherville on the map as a technology center.

Also thumbs up to the college for hosting

STEM-related sessions for high-school students and middle-school girls Monday and Wednesday.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central Board of Education and the Estherville Lincoln Central Education Association for arriving at a tentative salary package agreement.

Thumbs up to B.J. Baskerville, new administrator at the Estherville Good Samaritan Society, who was welcomed by the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Wednesday.

Thumbs up to Wallingford Mayor Terry Osher who signed a proclamation for the third annual Mayor Day of Recognition for National Service Wednesday at the Regional Wellness Center. All RSVP volunteers were recognized, with special recognition going to Evelyn Behrens and Evelyn Hennick.

Thumbs up to 'Grandma Pam' Tschetter of Estherville who is holding a reading and a signing for her children's book, Tucker's Travels In Northwest Iowa with Grandma Pam, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce offices at 620 First Ave. S.

Thumbs up to Wayne Petersen, Don Koons and Don Valen of the Emmet County Historical Society Museum Board for a great program at Estherville's Rotary meeting Thursday. Wayne and "The Two Dons" showed a video of Estherville parades, pheasant hunts, tobogganing at Fort Defiance State Park and other events from the 1920s to the 1940s. After Rotarians saw the video, everyone wanted a copy.

Thumbs up to the singers and their sponsors who are taking part in CAASA Idol starting at 6 p.m. tonight at the Estherville VFW. This annual event helps raise money to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
