Warriors edge past E’Hawks in eight innings

EMMETSBURG - North Union evened its record at 1-1 with a 6-5 eight-inning victory over Emmetsburg on Thursday.

Tied 5-5 heading into the eighth inning, Tanner Doocy led off with a double, moved to third on the sacrifice by Riley Bauer and scored on a two-out hit by Braden Ortman.

In the bottom of the inning, the E'Hawks popped up three straight times-one to third base and twice to center field-as they were unable to answer.

Corey Vaske pitched all eight innings to earn the win. He gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

The Warriors finished with 10 hits led by Colin Runksmeier, who went 3-5 while Vaske was 2-4 with two RBI and Ortman was 2-4 with an RBI. Doocy also was 2-4 and Bauer was 1-3.

North Union is at Forest City today for a double header and on the road against Clear Lake on Tuesday and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Wednesday.
