EMT-1 and EMT-2 are being offered in Emmetsburg starting in September. The EMT-1 class meets Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 21 to Dec. 17. EMT-2 meets Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 14 to April 28, 2016. Both must be taken to become an EMT. Both classes are in Room 4108 of the Construction Technology building at the Emmetsburg campus.
Instructors are Sheryl Darling and Steve Dobbins. Courses follow the national EMT educational standards. They emphasize development of skills in assessment of adults and pediatric patients; recognition of signs and symptoms of illness or injury; and proper procedures when rendering emergency medical care and transport.
EMT-1 and EMT-2 are approximately 138 hours of classroom time including lecture, psychomotor skills and 20 hours of onsite clinical evaluation.
Students must register and pass both EMT-1 and EMT-2 to be eligible to take the national certification exam.
