Letters to the Editor

Music, meteorites, and the silent auction

Thanks musicians for Monday concert

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the musicians who provided a special concert Monday evening. Both the concert band and jazz band includes local talent and several who travel over 100 + miles for weekly practice for the finale holiday presentation.

It was sad for a community that is promoting our City of the elements of a good life "earth, water, wind, fire, and you". My question is, "Where were you?"

Less than 100 people were in attendance at the concert and that is sad. Maybe a computerized controlled sign listing community events would be a good consideration in the near future.

Now that the City has the meteorite corner and everyone will know where the library is located, I am sure there must be an appropriate location to consider an informational sign promoting what "YOU" could be enjoying in our community.

Oh by the way no one in my 50 years at the library ever told me they couldn't find the library.

Also there are many citizens that don't realize the library has a piece of the original meteorite on display in the library. Some type of historical marker should be on South side of library square indicating that location. The original marker was moved from the North side of the square to meteorite corner.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Walz,

Estherville

Friends of the Library Silent Auction a success

Letter to the Editor:

This year, board members of the Friends of the Estherville Public Library decided to try a new approach to their fundraising efforts. Several area community members, organizations, and businesses have donated items or theme baskets to the cause, and on November 17th final bids were tallied. We are pleased to report that the auction has raised $2,057 to benefit projects for the library chosen by the Friends board.

We have several generous donors to thank for making this possible (in alphabetical order): American Family Insurance / Bob Jensen Agency, Mari Miller Burns, Cat Tales Anteeks / Lisa Dreeszen, Dorothy Christensen, Estherville Garden Club, Mitch Eveleth, The Eyecare Centre / Dawn Webb, Fareway / Dale Breuer, Kathy Graves, Heather Gudenkauf, Tena Hanson, Heartland Americana, Cheryl Houseman, Iowa lakes Community College, J&K Snowmobile, Mark & Lesa Nauss, Joan Nims, NorthStar Bank, North Star Nights Kiwanis, North West Bank, Lavonne Phillips, Privatis / Charles Stroup, The Radon Guy, Regional Wellness Center, Dennis Ridout, Shear Magic Salon / Stephanie Egeland, Thrivent Financial, Wa Tan Ye Club, and the Wild Rose Casino.

Proceeds from this year's silent auction are earmarked for a new drinking fountain / water bottle filling station, to replace the drinking fountain that is currently out of order, among other projects. We appreciate all of the bidders who participated in the auction, and especially those who purchased items as top bidders. Thank you for making our first silent auction fundraiser a success!

Tena Hanson,

Estherville Library Director
