Ordered to pay restitution, civil penalty

March 6, 2017

Eric Arnold Olson, 25, of Ringsted, was given a deferred judgment for a charge of burglary in the second degree, a Class C felony.

Olson broke into a home July 4, 2015 and was caught by the residents of that home when they returned from Independence Day celebrations.

When Olson tried to escape, the homeowner detained him, and a scuffle occurred, causing $1,000 in damage to the property.

Judge Don Courtney deferred judgment, ordering Olson to pay $1,000 in restitution to Eric and Sonja Gjerde, and to pay a $1,000 civil penalty.

Olson will serve probation for two years. Judge Courtney dismissed a charge of criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony.
