The Estherville United Methodist Church Choir is sending 15 people on a trip to New York City from Black Friday until the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The choir has been invited to perform with other singers at Carnegie Hall.
Each singer is responsible for an underwriting fee, which offsets the cost for the program of renting Carnegie Hall at $16,000 per night, according to director Diane Blom.
In addition, there is the cost of flights, hotel, and meals.
The church is hoping to be able to cover the cost of each singer, allowing it to be affordable, and allowing the singers to enjoy the honor.
The choir members will join a mass choir who will work with the composer Joseph Martin.
Distinguished Concerts International New York, the sponsor of the choir concert, holds about 15 shows each season in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, another New York City venue.
Dennis Ross is the only male singer going on the trip. In addition to eleven singers, there are four cheerleaders, including Estherville UMC?Pastor Cory Allard and her husband, Allen.
The concert included a variety of styles of music, and a dessert buffet afterward.
The choir plans a pork loin dinner at the church April 30.
There is also a donation site set up at YouCaring, and donations will be accepted any time at the church and through the church website.
