OKOBOJI - Estherville Lincoln Central picked up two Lakes Conference dual wins on Thursday as the Midgets shot a 156 to defeat both Spirit Lake (183) and LeMars (188).

"With temperatures that felt like the low 30's, I knew this would be a test of fortitude, and I thought these kids would respond to the conditions," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. "We had a super day as a team, with some superb individual scores."

Trey Jacobson took medalist honors with a 38 while Hunter Wheatley also shot a 38 and was runner-up medalist. Jacob Bosch and Blake Miller both shot 40s to complete ELC's scoring.

Non-counting scores were a 47 by Collin Wodtke and an 83 by Joseph Sexe.

"Trey and Hunter took home the medals, while Jacob and Blake rounded out our best 9 hole team score of the year," said Van Roekel.

LeMars came out on top in the junior varsity meet with a 190 while ELC shot 194 and Spirit Lake a 213. Izaak Sander and Jayson Moeller each shot 47s to lead ELC while Jakob Paulson shot a 49 and Brady Hanson shot a 51. Non-counting scores were a 53 from Aaron Kintzle and a 56 from Seth Vaske.

"Again, the junior varsity posted some very nice scores and continue their improvement," said Van Roekel. "These kids just keep battling to improve their games, and their mental approach to the game. "It's really becoming quite fun to watch!"

A varsity tournament scheduled for Saturday in Storm Lake was canceled.

ELC (20-6 overall, 3-1 in the Lakes Conference) will host Spirit Lake on Tuesday.
