HULL - Looking to secure at least third place in the Lakes Conference, Estherville Lincoln Central ran into a bump with a 12-6 loss to Western Christian on Tuesday.

"Pitching was a struggle," said ELC coach Megan Anderson.

Morgan White pitched three innings, but walked the first three batters of the fourth inning. Sydney Swanson came in for two-thirds of an inning at that point.

"She pitched well, but we made defensive errors which cost us three runs and she gave up a three-run home run in the same inning," said Anderson of Swanson.

With ELC trailing 12-1, Olivia Truog entered and finished the final 2 1/3 innings giving up no runs on two hits with one hit batter.

"Offensively, we didn't start hitting until the fifth inning," said Anderson.

ELC managed a run in the third inning as White led off with a single and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Josie Condon. A suicide bunt by Gabby Heckard brought White home.

In the fifth inning, ELC loaded the bases as White walked, Condon singled and Heckard was hit by a pitch. Karmen Hazen hit a ball to deep center field to clear the bases and cut the deficit to 12-4.

With two outs in the seventh, Truog hit her first career home to left center. Rylee Miller then singled and a ball to deep center by Hallie Jensen scored pinch runner Karley Hanson. Jadynn Moore was then hit by a pitch, but the rally ended as Lena McCoy grounded out.

White took the loss as she gave up seven runs on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Swanson gave up one earned run on two hits with one walk.

Now with four league losses, ELC still has a chance to secure third place with a win in one of their final two conference games. Spirit Lake (9-2) and Cherokee (10-2) lead the conference.

ELC (14-17 overall, 8-4 in the Lakes Conference) was at LeMars on Wednesday.

The Midgets host Humboldt tonight in a non-conference matchup and then wrap up conference play and the regular season at home against Cherokee on Friday.

Jensen homers twice against E'Hawks

Two two-run home runs by Hallie Jensen were part of a 15-hit night as Estherville Lincoln Central cruised to a 12-4 win over Emmetsburg on Monday.

ELC's bats went to work with two outs in the first inning. Gabby Heckard started the five run inning with a double. Karmen Hazen and Olivia Truog both hit RBI singles into the outfield and both were able to make second base on their hits as the outfielders tried to get the runner at home plate. Rylee Miller followed with a double to the fence to score Truog. That's when Hallie Jensen uncorked her first home run of the night over the center field fence for a 5-0 ELC lead.

ELC kept the pressure on while Emmetsburg tried to chip at the lead, but the deficit was too much.

Miller finished a strong night at the plate as she went 4-4 with three doubles and three RBIs while Jensen was 2-2 with four RBIs. Hazen was 3-4 with a double and two RBIs while Heckard and Truog each went 2-4 with two RBIs.

Morgan White pitched a complete game, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
