The Estherville Lincoln Central School Board held its annual organizational meeting on Monday.

After wrapping up 2016-17 business, the board bid farewell to Jodie Greig, who did not seek re-election this year.

Reconvening the 2017-18 board, Sandy Fandel, who was voted onto the board in the recent school election, took her place on the board. She and Duane Schnell, who won re-election to the board, were both sworn in by board secretary Kate Woods.

Start of school

going well

In presenting their monthly administration reports, ELC principals Shane Kalous (PreK-4), David McCaulley (middle school) and Brad Leonard (high school), all reported the start of the new school year is going smoothly.

"The staff members in new roles have done a great job of preparing and putting in the extra time to make sure they are ready and on point with what they are doing," Kalous stated in his written report. "Our new teachers and those transferring into Demoney have brought a new energy and positive vibe to our building.

"One of the big concerns the elementary deals with each year is droppoff and pick up at the elementary," he continued. "So far dropoff has been very smooth. This can all change with rainy days or cold weather in which all students will have to come into the building and more cars will be dropping off in front. As long as we get parents to pull forward as far as they can, we anticipate this still going very smoothly."

Leonard talked about the new main office construction at the high school.

"The added safety it will provide when completed is well worth the minor inconvenience," he said. "I am pleased with our new staff and thankful the leadership our veteran department members have provided to them. Our students and staff are off to a great start."
