Funeral services for Dorthey E. Christensen, 92, of Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Fred Dykhuizen officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, in Estherville

Visitation will be one hour prior the to the service Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Dorthey Elaine (Bevard) Christensen, the daughter of Emery and Mary (Koppie) Bevard, was born Jan. 7, 1925, in Estherville.

She graduated from West Bend High School in 1942.

She was united in marriage to Richard N. Christensen on Nov. 26, 1943. The couple made their home in West Bend and began raising their family. They moved to Estherville in 1948; where Dorthey was employed at Ben Franklin. In 1963, the family moved to Olivia, Minn. She was employed in a grocery store, a dime store, a corn processing facility and also Trojan Seed Company. In her leisure time Dorthey enjoyed reading, quilting, traveling and bowling. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends. The couple returned to Estherville in 1974. Richard died Jan. 13, 1994.

She was an active member of United Methodist Church in Estherville where Dorothy participated in UMW, served on the church funeral committee for many years and was a member of the Esther Circle. She also enjoyed being a member of the East Riverside Club.

Left to cherish Dorthey's memory are her son, Richard E. Christensen (Nancy) of Farwell, Minn.; daughter: Peggy Walters of Worthington, Minn.; grandchildren: Christine Holter, Chad Christensen; Michele (Dan) Machado, Melisa Walters and great-grandchildren, Derek (Sara), Jacob and Logan Holter; Sarah and Tessa Machado and great-great-grandchildren, Jayden, Mila and Nora Holter.

She has been preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Michael Walters; sisters, Margaret (infant), Florence Swanson, Darlene Andresen, Catherine Luchsinger, Jean Clymer Blom and brothers, Emery and Francis and grandson-in-law, Noel Holter.
