Funeral services for Marilyn Jean Kirk, 51, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Interment will be at East Side Memorial Cemetery, Estherville. She departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation was at the church on Saturday.

Marilyn Jean Kirk, the daughter of James Roscoe and (Laura) Lavonne (Smith) Kirk Jr, was born Feb. 4, 1966, in Estherville.

Marilyn received her education in Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1984. After graduation from high school she attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa for Marketing Management.

In September 1985, she married Mark Mortensen in Estherville. She attended Travel Agent School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1989. Marilyn lived in various locations throughout the United States including, Houston, Texas, Rock Port, Oregon, Phoenix, Arizona, Austin, Texas, Spencer, Iowa and Estherville. She was employed in travel agencies, Sheraton Hotels, customer service and telemarketing. She saw beauty in nature and she enjoyed artwork and music. Marilyn was a dreamer and wanted to see the world. She traveled to Paris, France and London, England. Marilyn also enjoyed star watching and sunsets. She enjoyed her pets and was kind hearted. She was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Marilyn's memory are her mother, Lavonne Kirk of Estherville; sister, Beth Olthoff of Middletown, Ohio; one nephew, Evan Olthoff of Middletown; aunt, Carol Shipley of Estherville and several cousins.

She has been preceded in death by her father, James Roscoe Kirk Jr.; her grandparents; aunt, Rosabelle Kirk Herman and uncles, Larry Smith, Frank Smith and Rolland Shipley.
