ELC places sixth at Lakes

Houge, Peta, Tripp, Egeland all place third

LEMARS - Estherville Lincoln Central finished sixth at the Lakes Conference Wrestling Tournament on Friday with 122 points.

The Midgets were without the services of top wrestler Lincoln Coakley (170) who was out sick.

ELC settled for four third-place finishes, three placing fourth and two getting fifth.

"Overall we had an up and down night," said ELC coach Gable Bonner. "We had our moments where we looked really good and moments were we looked pretty bad. Little disappointed we didn't get a finalist but we had a bunch of placers."

Placing third for ELC were Michael Houge (106), Jason Peta (113), Jalen Tripp (132) and Nick Egeland (220).

Houge lost his quarterfinal match, but came back with a pin in the consolation semifinal in 5:30 over Storm Lake's Carter Shima and then pinned LeMars' Blake Dirksen in 1:48 in the third-place match.

Peta lost his semifinal match, 6-2 to Milton Duarte of Storm Lake, but came back with a pin over Spencer's Bryson Blair in 22 seconds and won the third-place match in 30 seconds against LeMars' Jason Hand.

Tripp won his quarterfinal match in 2:27 against LeMars' Jacob singer, but lost in the semifinal to Storm Lake's Christopher Shima. He came back with a pin over Spencer's Abe Ortiz in 52 seconds and pinned Singer again in the third-place match in 3:27.

Egeland started the day by earning a pin in the quarterfinal, defeating Western Christian's Bryce Van Dyken in 3:19, but lost his semifinal by fall. He came back with a pin against Storm Lake's Gabe Barnett in the consolation final and then edged Spencer's Zach O'Clair, 6-3, in the third-place match.

Placing fourth for ELC were Zech Origer (126), Royce Coakley (152) and Kylan Fitzgerald (182).

Garrett Paulson (138) and Isaac Hanson (285) both placed fifth. Ethan Crees (160) placed sixth.

ELC will travel to the Class 2A Sectional Tournament in Spirit Lake this Friday. Other teams competing are Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, Cherokee, Sheldon-South O'Brien, Spencer and host Spirit Lake Park. First and second-place winners in each weight class with advance to the district tournament at Sioux Center on Saturday, Feb. 10.
