Eudean E. Barnes Nov. 10, 1921 - Feb. 4, 2018

GUTHRIE CENTER - Eudean E. Barnes, 96, daughter of Frank & Maude (Bright) Weeks, was born Nov. 10, 1921 in Sac City, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018 at the New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

She received her education in Wall Lake and graduated from Superior High School in 1940. She attended one year at Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa. From there she was employed at the hospital in Spencer, Iowa until she attended the Willows Maternity School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. She was employed at the hospital in Kansas City. On Feb. 14, 1946, she married Myron Barnes. They made their home on a farm southwest of Estherville and were the parents of four children. In 1965-1966, Eudean attended and graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College School of Practical Nursing and was employed at the Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. They moved to Humboldt, Iowa in 1969. She was employed at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa and at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital from 1970-1986. She attended the first EMT class offered at the Humboldt Hospital. She worked full time in Surgery for 16 years. She then retired but returned to work in Central Supply and Surgery. In 1993, she moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. In 2003, she moved to Guthrie Center, Iowa.

She was active in Christian Women and was an active member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt, and the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. She enjoyed china painting and traveling. She has traveled to Europe, the Holy Land, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Linda) Barnes of Bonita Springs, FL; Nancy (Kent) Wallace of Oklahoma City, OK; Kathy (Doug) Twigg of Panora; Janet (Dale) Stensland of Three Rivers, Michigan; 10 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron in 1989; son-in-law Kenneth Stewart, granddaughter Amy Barnes, and sisters Evelyn & Lovella.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Guthrie Center. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery, Schaller, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 from 5-7 P.M. at the Twigg Funeral Home, Guthrie Center.
