North Union looked to make one more miraculous play, but it never came in the Class 2A State Semifinal on Friday.

The Warriors had chances in regulation and two overtimes to get past Cascade, but it was the Cougars with a 12-3 third overtime that came up with a 62-53 victory.

For the third game in a row, the Warriors started well. They took their first lead after Chloe Lofstrom converted a three-point play to make it 5-4. Kate Anderson hit a 3-pointer from the wing and Samantha Hagedorn scored her first basket for a 10-4 lead.

Cascade came back to cut the deficit to two, 14-12.

The Warriors got the last shot of the first half with Hagedorn hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 17-12 Warrior lead.

Cascade opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer, but baskets by Lofstrom and Hallie Reese pushed the lead to six. Late in the half, Rory McClellan and Bre Anderson both knocked down 3-pointers for the Warriors' biggest lead of the game at 29-17. Cascade made one free throw before half, but trailed 29-18.

In the third quarter, the shots started falling for Cascade. They cut the deficit to three, 37-34, before Hagedorn again connected from beyond the arc to push the lead back to six, 40-34.

However, the Cougars kept coming and started the final period with a 7-0 run to retake the lead.

Hagedorn answered, but Cascade's Anne Ryan hit a 3-pointer for a 44-42 advantage. Reese tied the game at 4-44.

The Warriors got the ball back and began running clock over the last couple minutes. However, Cascade prevented the final shot by forcing a jump ball with 1.1 seconds left.

In the second overtime, the score was again tied at 48-48. Both teams had chances to play for the final shot, but Cascade turned the ball over first with 7.5 seconds remaining and the Warriors also lost the ball on their end.

After scoring the first basket of the overtime, Cascade had a chance to put the game away at the free throw line, but missed the front end of three one-and-one opportunities. Lofstrom tied the game at 50-50 with a tough bucket under the basket with 12 seconds remaining. Cascade had chances in the final seconds, but couldn't get the ball to fall.

In the third overtime, Rachel Trumm drove to the basket to put Cascade up for good. After a basket by Nicole McDermott, Hagedorn hit her third 3-pointer of the game to cut the deficit back to one. However, the Warriors wouldn't make another shot as Cascade pulled away.

For North Union, Lofstrom, Reese and Hagedorn each finished with 13 points while Bre Anderson had eight and Kate Anderson and Rory McClellan each had three. The Warriors had 13 assists with three each by Kate Anderson, Reese and Hagedorn.

All five Cascade starters reached double digits led by McDermott with 16, Jordan Simon with 14, Abby Welter with 11 and Anne Ryan and Rachel Trumm each with 10.

North Union wraps up a 22-3 season. Seniors suiting up for the final time were Kate Anderson, Chelsey Glatz, Skyler Morphew, Hallie Reese, Bre Anderson and Samantha Hagedorn.
