Ward 1 council member walks out of meeting

Council member Cindy Hood walked out of council meeting, said she may resign

Cindy Hood, Estherville city council member for Ward I since January 1, walked out of Monday evening's city council meeting saying she may resign. A conflict arose over whether or not the March 12 meeting of the city Parks & Rec board was civil and whether or not members of the board bullied and intimidated Ms. Hood. The majority of the board came to the meeting to back up board members Gary Phillips, Bob Jensen, and Tina Jensen, who addressed the council and entered into a discussion with Ms. Hood over what happened at that meeting and in discussions afterward. Twenty-five minutes into the council meeting, Ms. Hood walked out, saying she was going to turn in her resignation Tuesday. If this happens, it would leave Ward I once again with a city council seat vacancy.

Ms. Hood ran for Estherville mayor and, after an election defeat, for the Ward I vacancy saying she hoped to bring her management and leadership experience and wealth of available time to listening to citizen concerns and making Estherville a better place. The city council approved her bid over that of Shannon Lehmkuhl for the Ward I spot when it was vacated by Brandon Carlin, who was elected to an at-large position.
