STORM LAKE - Estherville Lincoln Central's Logan Newhouse started the week well for the boys tennis team, winning both his singles matches on Monday and Tuesday against Storm Lake and Spirit Lake/Okoboji. Newhouse and Trevor Friesner also won their double matches against Storm Lake, but weather halted play Tuesday's doubles match with SL/O.

"I thought Logan played his best tennis of the year against Storm Lake and it transferred into Tuesday when he beat a very good Kyler Olesen from Spirit Lake," said ELC coach Kyle Grems. "Logan is really playing tennis at a high level right now. Our No. 1 doubles squad with Logan and Trevor is pretty tough to beat with their length, and it's a shame they didn't get a chance to compete against Spirit Lake due to the weather."

In singles play against Storm Lake, Newhouse won 6-0, 6-2 over Phuong Hoang. Friesner lost 7-6, 6-7 (1-0) to Luxes Inthamath. The ELC duo then won 6-3 over Jaylen Saengchampheng and Inthamath in doubles.

In doubles, Houseman and Nissen lost 6-3, 6-3 and Christensen and Winter lost 6-2-6-2.

On Tuesday, Newhouse won 107 over Kyler Olesen for ELC's lone win in the 8-1 loss. In other singles, Friesner lost 10-6, Nissen lost 10-3, Houseman lost 10-4, Christensen lost 11-9 and Williams lost 10-0.

In doubles, Houseman and Nissen lost 10-6 and Williams and Christensen lost 10-0.

"Michael Houseman has come along ways these last couple weeks competing at a high level as well," said Grems. "I know we've got a little tennis left to play, but I'm excited about working with these guys in the off season."

ELC is at Cherokee on Thursday.

In junior varsity play against Storm Lake, ELC lost 8-1. In singles, Nick McClurg lost 8-4, Brendan Finley lost 8-5, Scott Whitacre lost 8-3, Edwin Morales won 8-4, Brant Hilton lost 8-0, and Octavio Diaz lost 6-0. In doubles, McClurg and Finley lost 6-4, Whitacre and Morales lost 6-4 and Hilton and Diaz lost 6-1.

ELC's JV didn't get to complete play on Tuesday due to the weather. McClurg lost 8-0, and Finley lost 8-. Whitacre was down 5-0 and Morales was down 4-1 when play halted.

" I really think some of our guys (Scott, Brendan, Winter, Justin, Edwin, and Ahries) are a good summer of work away from being pretty good tennis players," said Grems.
