Estherville Police report an ongoing investigation into the death of Jasmine Rodriguez Sebastian. The 11-month-old child was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital June 4, 2018 at approximately 2:48 p.m. and transferred to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, where she passed away Wednesday, June 6.

The Estherville Police Department, Emmet County Attorney's Office, Iowa Department of Human Services, and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation are investigating the circumstances surrounding Jasmine's death.

According to a family member, Jasmine would have had her first birthday in the coming week.

Special Agent Simmons of Iowa DCI said an autopsy was performed Thursday.

"Typically results of the autopsy take four to six weeks to come back," Simmons said, though the time frame depends upon the current workload at the State Medical Examiner's office.

Simmons added that the autopsy results will indicate whether Jasmine's death was related to a medical issue or if something happened to her.

Simmons indicated it was unlikely officials would have additional details to release until the autopsy results came back.

Monetary donations for Jasmine's family are being accepted at the front office of Redwood Farms.
